According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), there were 20,000 reported cases of GBV in 2020, with 1,500 of those cases resulting in murder. The data highlights the severity of the issue and the need for urgent action.

GBV is a pervasive issue in South Africa, affecting individuals from all walks of life. The statistics are staggering, with 1 in 5 women experiencing GBV in their lifetime. This translates to approximately 2.5 million women who have been subjected to GBV.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), there were over 33,000 reported cases of violence against women and children in 2020. The majority of these cases involve intimate partner violence, with 71% of reported cases being committed by a partner or ex-partner. The majority of victims are women, with 85% of reported cases involving a female victim.

The prevalence of GBV is not limited to women; men and children are also victims of violence. GBV can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and psychological abuse.
