One stick, two ways to use it

A glue stick is really a fixed volume of adhesive — what changes is how you spend it. Laid out as a continuous bead, it covers a certain number of linear inches, useful for edging a frame or trimming a box. Portioned into small dots instead, that same volume sets a certain number of individual pieces — the way mosaic tesserae, rhinestones, or silk flower petals actually get attached.

This calculator computes both from the same underlying stick volume, so you can check either figure against a project without having to run separate arithmetic for each.

How is this different from the Glue Stick Quantity Estimator?

The quantity estimator works forward from a target (how much bead length you need, to a stick count). This tool works backward from what you already have (a number of sticks, to how far they'll stretch) — handy when you want to know if the sticks in the drawer are enough before you start, rather than shopping for exactly what a project needs.

What's a "glue dot" in this calculator?

A small, roughly disc-shaped dab of glue used to set a single small item — a rhinestone, a mosaic tessera, a silk flower petal, a sequin. The calculator treats it as a short squat cylinder of a diameter and thickness you choose, and works out how many of those the volume in your sticks can produce.

Which figure should I use for a mosaic or embellishment project?

Use the dot count — it tells you roughly how many individual pieces (tiles, gems, petals) you can set with the sticks on hand. For a project that's mostly edging, trim, or a continuous line of glue instead, use the linear coverage figure.

Why does gun size (mini vs full) change the numbers so much?

A full-size 11mm stick has roughly two and a half times the cross-sectional area of a 7mm mini stick, so it holds proportionally more glue for the same length — meaning more dots or more linear coverage per stick, at the cost of less precision for fine detail work.
