Most glue-gun mistakes aren't about the glue — they're about running the wrong temperature against the wrong material. Styrofoam dimples and melts under a high-temp nozzle almost instantly; thin ribbon can scorch; craft foam sheets can warp and shrink at the bond point. Wood, ceramic, glass, and metal, by contrast, shrug off high heat and reward it with a faster, stronger bond.

Why does the more sensitive material decide the recommendation, not both?

Does a low-temp bond actually hold up?

For lightweight craft and decorative work, yes — a low-temp bond is plenty strong for silk flowers, foam shapes, ribbon, and similar materials. It's simply not the strongest possible bond a hot glue gun can make, which is a fair trade for not melting the material you're trying to decorate.
